Norwich City FC
I am a big supporter of Norwich City Football Club. I didn’t really have much choice to support them or not. Despite being born and raised in Somerset my mums side of the family were from Norwich and more importantly my mums Uncle was a chap called Geoffrey Watling who had twice saved the club from winding up and was the previous owner of the club before the now owner the famous domestic godess Delia Smith.

You can read about Geoffrey here: http://www.geoffreywatling.org.uk/ Despite winning the Championship and gaining promotion to the promised land of the Premiership Norwich now find themselves in League 1. Albeit a the time of writing we’re 7 points clear at the top of the table with only 10 games remaining. Norwich are famous for having the worlds oldest football song ‘On The Ball City’ originally written in 1890! The lyrics are as follows:
On the Ball City Lyrics:
“Kick it off, throw it in, have a little scrimmage, Keep it low, a splendid rush, bravo, win or die; On the ball, City, never mind the danger, Steady on, now’s your chance, Hurrah! We’ve scored a goal. City!, City!, City!”
The full version:
In the days to call, which we have left behind,
Our boyhood’s glorious game,
And our youthful vigour has declined
With its mirth and its lonesome end;
You will think of the time, the happy time,
Its memories fond recall
When in the bloom of your youthful prime
We’ve kept upon the ball
Kick it off, throw it in, have a little scrimmage,
Keep it low, a splendid rush, bravo, win or die;
On the ball, City, never mind the danger,
Steady on, now’s your chance,
Hurrah! We’ve scored a goal.
Let all tonight then drink with me
To the football game we love,
And wish it may successful be
And in one grand united toast
Join player, game and song
And fondly pledge your pride and toast
Success to the City club.
Kick it off, throw it in, have a little scrimmage,
Keep it low, a splendid rush, bravo, win or die;
On the ball, City, never mind the danger,
Steady on, now’s your chance,
Hurrah! We’ve scored a goal.

Ipswich
When i was just, a little boy
My mother bought me a little toy
An Ipswich fan, on some string
So what did i do, i kicked his f****** head in!
Kicked his f****** head, kicked his f****** head in!
Norwich City Football Club are a proper club. Even at our lowest points when we’ve been fighting against relegation and fighting for promotion from leagues as low as League 1 we’ve still turned out like a proper club holding the higest average attendances in the 2009/2010 season in League 1 despite there being self proclaimed giants in the league like ‘Leeds United’. Getting a ticket to see Norwich play is always a difficulty.
UPDATE: It’s October 2011 and Norwich have miraculously managed to go from being beaten 7-1 in League 1 by Colchester at home to finding themselves in 8th place in the Premier League. Last Saturday they drew 1-1 with European Giants Liverpool. Paul Lambert is truly a king.
